Every year around this time I ask myself the same question “Where did the year go?” Looking back as well as anticipating and planning ahead I think is a normal occupation around the holiday season, particularly if you are a small business owner. This past September we opened the Phoenix Art Studios one block south of our original location and expanded our store.
The expansion of our new annex Studio has provided us with the opportunity to significantly expand our retail selection, offering a wider range of canvas, paints, drawing supplies, studio supplies and easels. This season we are proud to offer special discounts on new items to the store, including high viscosity Golden Acrylics and mediums, a wide selection of new easels and four varieties of excellent value portfolios. Last spring we took a painting group to China, where we marveled at the splendor of Huangshan’s Yellow Mountains, painting in the village of Hongcun and Li-ken and Guangshou.
A spectacularly beautiful summer provided lots of opportunities for our Sunday Plien-air group to indulge ourselves in painting on location around the lower mainland, including Salt Spring Island (A highlight which we will be sure to repeat next summer). Early in the New year our painting group will be exploring the colours, culture and landscapes of Cuba! This will be our 6th International painting excursion and our second tour of Cuba. For those many customers who could not travel with us this time you can join us in spirit and follow our tour on our store blog. Internet connection in Cuba is inconsistent at best but we will post some great photos and pictures of our work as we travel through this magnificent country. Many of our customers are anxiously anticipating our next excursion. I am proud to officially announce that our plan is to return to Asia, visiting Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as a return to our beloved Guatemala for another fix of our favourite painting locations. For many of us the new year represents new commitments, resolutions and fresh optimism.
